Devin Williams of the Yankees is struggling.
Really badly.
Williams’ most recent outing was bad enough that Yankees star Jazz Chisholm took matters into his own hands, taking time to talk to Williams.
“I just told him that you’re the guy every time,” Chisholm said after the game. “This is who we want to give it to, and that’s why you’re here. We all believe in you. We all got your back, and don’t worry about it.”
The words of advice weren’t enough for Williams who took the loss regardless, but it was still nice to see Chisholm embrace a veteran role on his new-ish team.
“I faced him before,” Chisholm said. “I know what he’s got, and I know how much heart he has. Every day he goes out there, he’s trying his best to get outs and close out games. It’s New York; it’s big, it’s a little different. But I know my guy. I’ve faced him and talked to him a lot over the past years, and I just know what he’s got.”

Williams has been one of the best pitchers in baseball for a considerable time. With patience, he’ll likely regain his form — the Yankees certainly hope he does.
“I just went out there and told him, ‘Hey, this is your moment right here,'” Chisholm said. “Every game, the ninth inning—this is your moment.”
