Jaydon Blue 40 time: How Cowboys got fast NFL Draft RB steal from in-state college

Jaydon Blue has special ability.

Specifically, he’s pretty much the fastest football player on every field he steps on. That includes in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys got Blue as a fifth-round steal to be part of a crowded RB depth chart. But if things break Blue’s way, he could be a star.

Jaydon Blue’s time in the 40-yard dash at his Pro Day at the University of Texas was 4.25 seconds.

At the NFL Combine, Blue ran a 4.38 40 with a reported groin strain.

Where did Jaydon Blue go to college?

Jaydon Blue went to college at the University of Texas, where he played for the Longhorns.

In 2024 with Texas, Blue ran 134 times for 730 yards, a 5.4 yards per carry average. He had eight rushing touchdowns. He also caught 42 passes for 368 yards (8.8 average) with six more TDs.

When was Jaydon Blue drafted?

The Dallas Cowboys drafted Jaydon Blue with the No. 149 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

For reference, that was five selections before the Browns took Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders.

Cowboys RB depth chart

The Cowboys’ unofficial depth chart entering the Thursday night opener with the Eagles is as follows:

  1. Javonte Williams
  2. Miles Sanders
  3. Jaydon Blue

Blue missed two preseason games with an injury. 

There’s an expectation that, if healthy, Blue can climb this depth chart in a hurry and show off his blazing speed at the NFL level.
