Jamie Carragher takes hilarious dig at Liverpool’s transfer business with cheeky social media post

Liverpool have been one of the most active clubs in the summer transfer window as they desperately want to invest in improving their roster and depth.

The Reds were exceptional as they won the Premier League last season and with Manchester City rebuilding with new players and Arsenal not accustomed to winning the league, Liverpool see an opportunity to dominate the English top flight for the next few years.

Hence, they have invested big and signed gamechangers like Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Eketike and are also chasing Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

Many fans believe that Arne Slot has a dream squad with the new inclusions, and they expect the Reds to defend the title.

Among all the hype and applaud, former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher addressed the problem in the team with a viral post taking a hilarious dig at the club’s transfer business this summer.

Looking at Liverpool unveiling the home and away kits on Friday morning, Carragher was seen donning the home kit and posted it on his X handle.

He accompanied his photo with a caption, “The new @LFC centre back finally arrives!”

The Reds fans saw the fun side of the things and played along the 47-year-old but he actually addresses a genuine problem for Liverpool in the backline.

The reigning Premier League champions have strengthened their attack and midfield this summer, even the two fullbacks that they have signed are known for their attacking prowess on the flanks.

Which defender should Liverpool sign this summer?

Earlier, Carragher highlighted Liverpool’s defensive fragility during his appearance at The Overlap football podcast.

“Liverpool haven’t got a player that every other club has; a left-sided defender who can play centre-back or left-back.

“Arsenal have Calafiori, United have Martinez, Chelsea have Colwill, City have Nathan Ake and Gvardiol, even Tottenham have Van de Ven, who can do a little bit at left-back.”

Overall, Liverpool have only three proper centre-back options in their roster – Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate.

The only other centre-back is Rhys Williams, who was loaned out to Morecambe and could move away permanently this summer.

Other than that, defensive midfielder Wataru Endo can play as a makeshift defender.

A long-term injury to any of Liverpool’s centre-backs could derail their entire season.

While fans are following the Isak transfer saga, the Reds desperately need at least another centre-back in the mix.

Liverpool were linked with Crystal Palace stalwart Marc Guehi and it remains to be seen if they push for the England international or not.
