Arsenal’s second position in the Premier League standings is gradually slipping away after they played a 2-2 draw against champions Liverpool. With two games to go, the Gunners need wins to fortify their second spot as Newcastle United are gaining momentum.
Mikel Arteta’s team started the season with a lot of promise and now they will finish another season without any silverware. Apart from the Premier League, they had a great opportunity in the UEFA Champions League this time.
Especially after beating Real Madrid in the quarterfinal. However, they lost both matches against Paris Saint-Germain and crashed out of the tournament.
Following the draw, former Liverpool defender and football pundit Jamie Carragher made a shocking prediction about Arsenal star Declan Rice regarding his future in North London.
“I don’t think right now, I think maybe for other players who’ve been there a bit longer,” football pundit Carragher told Sky Sports.
“But in terms of Declan, I think he’s been Arsenal’s best player this season. I think those doubts may kick in in another 12 months.”

The England international has been in stellar form for the North Londoners throughout the campaign. He scored two thunderbolt freekicks to help Arsenal soar past Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Therefore, Carragher feels that the 26-year-old midfielder has joined Arsenal from West Ham United in 2023 to take the next step in his career. The Gunners broke their bank to sign Rice for £105 million.
Rice, since joining Arsenal, has only won the FA Community Shield. Apart from that, they haven’t landed any major trophy since winning the FA Cup five years ago.
However, Arsenal have shown great progress this season under Arteta, especially in the Champions League. They have proven that they can challenge top teams.
Currently, there’s no question about Arsenal letting go of the English midfielder as he is the player who holds the team together in midfield. Also, he has a contract till 2028 with an option to extend by another year.
While the club are in the right direction under the Spanish tactician, they need to start winning trophies to keep the motivation and morale high among the players.
