Jamal Musiala’s injury return timeline revealed after undergoing successful surgery

Bayern Munich suffered a 2-0 loss against Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup on July 5 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

This defeat saw Bayern Munich’s elimination from the competition. However, that was not the only heartbreak for the Bundesliga giants.

Bayern’s Jamal Musiala has sustained a fracture to his left leg following a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the match.

Following the clash on Saturday, Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl confirmed that Musiala will be ‘out for a long period,’ and said,

“This serious injury and the lengthy lay-off are a real shock for Jamal and us all. Jamal has just come back from an injury and will now be out for another long period. He’ll get everything he needs from us. We’ll support him intensively, be by his side and already look forward to when he’s back on the pitch,” as per ESPN.

A recent club statement mentioned that Musiala has successfully undergone surgery for his injury, and now, questions surface about how long the 22-year-old will need to recover and return to action.

What’s next for Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala?

The statement from Bayern did not specify Musiala’s expected time of return to the pitch, and summarize the German star’s recovery period to be the ‘next few months.’

“Jamal Musiala has undergone successful surgery after returning from the Club World Cup in the USA. In the quarter-final between FC Bayern and Paris St. Germain, the 22-year-old attacking player suffered a fractured fibula as a result of a broken and dislocated ankle and was substituted at half-time. He will begin his first rehabilitation sessions tomorrow, Tuesday, and will be unavailable to the German record champions for the next few months.”

Bayern Munich’s next competitive match is against VfB Stuttgart in the DFL-Supercup on August 16. The Bavarians’ first Bundesliga match in the 2025/26 season is against RB Leipzig and is slated for August 22 at Allianz Arena.
