Jalen Ramsey trade well within reach for Chargers following star’s recent comments

With just about one month until the start of training camps around the league, most teams have their 90-man rosters in place as they will be when those practices begin. But one of the biggest names still in limbo is that of Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

Ramsey and the Dolphins mutually agreed to seek a trade earlier this offseason and it seems to be a matter of when, not if, a deal will be announced. The Dolphins will be looking for the biggest return possible and will deal Ramsey to the highest bidder.

But Ramsey isn’t going to agree to go just anywhere and likely has a short list of teams he has told the Dolphins he would be willing to be sent to. Appearing on the Pat McAfee show on Friday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter stated that Ramsey will be traded, likely before the start of training camp, and that he thinks he prefers to go to Los Angeles, to either the Rams or the Chargers.

Ramsey has played for the Rams before, so the familiarity with that organization may factor into what Ramsey is looking for, but it could come down to which team is willing to pony up the most for his services.

The Chargers could use a veteran in the secondary as the team will be asking second-year players Tarheeb Still and Cam Hart to step into huge roles this season, now that Kristian Fulton and Asante Samuel, Jr., last year’s starting corners, are no longer on the team.

The Chargers had a chance to select Ramsey in the 2016 NFL Draft and many fans felt he was the pick to make. Instead, they selected Joey Bosa. It wasn’t a terrible decision as Bosa went on to have the second-most sacks in team history, but having Ramsey land with the Chargers now, months after Bosa was released, would be a bit ironic.

However, it makes sense for the team to pursue a deal and if Schefter’s belief that he wants to come to L.A. is accurate, then Joe Hortiz needs to figure out what the Dolphins would be willing to accept in a trade and make it happen.
