Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) defeated former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (54-7-1, 34 KOs) at the weekend, on Saturday, June 28, in Anaheim.
Nearing 40, 28-year-old Paul was 11 years Chavez’s junior, who had only fought once in almost four years.
Due to his advanced age and inactivity, the ageing Mexican failed to land a single punch in round one and struggled to land any more than four punches per round up to sixth round of the one-sided contest.
The 39-year-old actually only managed 61 punches over the entire 10 rounds, less than half of what the YouTuber-turned-boxer was able to land.
Despite this unconvincing victory, Jake Paul has been using his platform to call out some of the biggest names in boxing, such as Canelo.
But it’s not just the undisputed super-middleweight champion that’s being mentioned, “The Problem Child” has also been naming two-time unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua too.
Talking directly about fighting the Olympic champion during a press conference over the weekend, Jake Paul said, “And so I like the challenge. People always say… and that’s the criticism – fight someone in their prime who’s a beast. I think people just want to see me lose, that’s really what the message is behind it all.
“Anthony Joshua is an insane fight. But I want that challenge. We’ve been dm-ing back and forth, he wants to make it happen. He called me up and it’s looking very likely for next year.”
AJ is recovering from shoulder surgery, having just got back into the boxing gym recently, and is eyeing a ring return for around November time this year.
Joshua was last seen in September last year, when he was blasted away by fellow Brit Daniel Dubois in five rounds under the famous arch at Wembley Stadium, London.
His next fight is yet to be confirmed, but an announcement is expected to be made very soon.
