The Jaguars and Panthers, two squads looking for get-right seasons, will face off in opening weekend of the 2025 NFL season. It’s a rare Week 1 clash of AFC South vs. NFC South, and it should be a good one.
Jacksonville has new hope under first-year head coach Liam Coen, who previously ran the offense for Baker Mayfield and the NFC South-standout Buccaneers. Jags fans have been buzzing all summer about how Coen will finally tap into QB Trevor Lawrence’s potential.
Of course, TLaw will have plenty of help. Brian Thomas Jr. will be back to follow up his extraordinary rookie season, during which he racked up 1,282 yards and 10 touchdown catches. Jacksonville will also have two-way stud rookie Travis Hunter, whom the Jags traded up to grab at pick No. 2 in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Panthers, meanwhile, have an early pick of their own to finish fully developing. They also have a former Bucs offensive coordinator at the helm. Bryce Young, the first overall selection in 2023, has come a long way under Dave Canales, but there’s still room for plenty of improvement in 2025.
Rookie wideout Tetairoa McMillan should speed things up, and stud running back Chuba Hubbard should continue to make life easier for the young QB. The Panthers, like the Jags, have plenty of firepower.
