The Jacksonville Jaguars have waived the white flag on one of their 2024 free-agent signings.
The team announced on Tuesday that it has released former Green Bay Packers first-round pick, safety Darnell Savage. No corresponding move was announced.
Savage was signed to a three-year, $21.75 million contract during the 2024 offseason. He appeared in 13 games last season, starting in all of them. Savage finished with 51 tackles, two tackles for loss and six passes defensed in his first season with the Jags.
Savage failed to secure a starting role over Eric Murray and Andrew Wingard out of training camp. He played in both of the team’s first two games of 2025, but saw was on the field for just 36% of the team’s snaps while serving as the third safety.
Savage’s contract with the Jaguars included $12.5 million guaranteed and a $5 million signing bonus.
The veteran safety is just the latest stain of many on the record of former general manager Trent Baalke.
