Kyle Palmieri sustained what looked like a season-ending injury on Friday.
Before he left the ice, the New York Islanders’ alternate captain found a way to get an assist.
It was a wild sequence of events.
First, Palmieri got himself into a collision near the boards.
He’s believed to have torn his ACL, according to ESPN’s Emily Kaplan.

The puck cycled around as Palmieri slowly got himself to his feet to try and skate off the ice as play continued.
As Palmieri skated away, the puck swung back to a Philadelphia Flyers defenseman, and Palmieri was right there, so he swiped it away.
Palmieri then threaded a backhand pass to a cutting teammate, and one pass later, the Islanders put the puck in the back of the net.
So that’s a secondary assist for Palmieri while seriously injured.

That sums up the type of player the Islanders are losing to injury.
Most hockey players are tough. Palmieri certainly proves that he’s among the toughest with this moment.
