The stars will be out for Sunday Night Baseball.
In a World Series rematch, the Dodgers and Yankees will wrap up a three-game series in Los Angeles on Sunday night. The 2024 champion Dodgers have still had New York’s number thus far, taking the first two games of the series.
However, there’s a chance that the Dodgers are without one of their most recognizable faces for the ESPN matchup: Mookie Betts, who has been dealing with a toe injury.

Here’s the latest on Betts and whether or not he’ll play in Sunday’s game.
Is Mookie Betts playing tonight?
Betts will not play on Sunday against the Yankees. However, there was an optimistic update from the star before Sunday’s game.
Betts, who fractured his toe last week after stubbing his foot at home, said the injury has healed enough to put on a shoe for the first time Sunday. He said that Sunday was the first day that he could walk “pretty normal,” and he expects to return to action soon as he begins testing the toe.

However, he said he’s still in good spirits despite also dealing with an illness that caused him to lose weight at the start of the season.
“It’s not frustrating,” Betts said. “You gotta take the good with the bad.”

The star shortstop said he hadn’t “been able to put on a shoe the last couple days,” and now that he can get a shoe on, he expects his recovery turnaround to be “pretty quick.” He will not be available to pinch hit though, he said before Sunday’s game.Â

Dave Roberts also said that Betts would do some pregame work Sunday, such as taking grounders on his knees, but likely wouldn’t take swings yet.
“It’s a positive,” Roberts said.Â
