The Houston Rockets traded for Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns in the offseason for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and draft picks. Durant is hoping to get the Rockets over the top during the 2025-26 NBA season.
As the Rockets prepare for the upcoming season, so are many fantasy basketball owners. At one point, Durant has been a top five pick in a lot of NBA fantasy leagues. As the season approaches, is Durant worth a first-round pick in fantasy basketball or does he not have the same juice anymore as he once did?
Houston Rockets Kevin Durant Not a top 10 Fantasy Basketball Player as the 2025-26 Season Approaches
Rotowire.com writers Alex Barutha, Kirien Sprecher, Ryan Ward, and Nick Whalen contributed to a top 150 fantasy players ranking on nba.com for the upcoming 2025-26 season. At one point in time, Durant used to be a top five to 10 fantasy player. As of now, he is not even in the top 20. Durant is ranked number 23 on the list.
In other words, Durant is now featured as a second-round or a third-round pick in fantasy basketball. They said about Durant,
“Last season couldn’t have gone much worse for the Suns, but Durant still put up his usual, elite stat line while adding a 15th All-Star nod to his career resume. Now in Houston, the soon-to-be-37-year-old will again function as the top option in what should be a much better basketball situation. At this point in Durant’s career, injuries are a concern, as he’s missed at least 20 games in four of the last five seasons.”
Health has been a major concern for Durant over the last few years. He played in 62 games for the Suns during the 2024-25 NBA season. Durant averaged 26.6 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 4.2 APG, 1.2 BPG, and 0.8 SPG. He also shot 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from three, and 83.9% from the free-throw line.
Durant is no doubt going to be the number one scoring option on the Rockets. Another question is will he be playing in all 82 games this season? There is a good chance that Houston may give him some nights off during the season to rest. If he does play 75 games in 2025-26, then it will be good for the Rockets and fantasy owners as well. Durant is 36 years old, and he was sixth in the NBA last season in points per game which is impressive.
