Is Christian McCaffrey playing? Injury updates provide latest news on 49ers’ star RB

Christian McCaffrey went through this last year.

He was supposed to be the San Francisco 49ers’ star running back. But two separate injuries limited him to just four games played, and the ‘Niners scuffled to a 6-11 record.

CMC was supposed to be better this season, but instead, the days leading into Week 1, McCaffrey hurt his calf.

He’s officially questionable for Sunday’s matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.

Is Christian McCaffrey playing today vs. Seahawks?

McCaffrey’s questionable status on the injury report leaves this one in doubt. We won’t know for sure until the 49ers put out their injury report at 2:35 p.m. ET (11:35 a.m. PT) on Sunday.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported that McCaffrey’s signs are pointing to him being active for Week 1.

CMC wasn’t on the injury report to start the week. He was added as a limited participant Thursday with the calf problem, then didn’t practice Friday.

When McCaffrey spoke to reporters on Friday, he downplayed the injury.

“Nothing serious,” McCaffrey said. “I feel great about where I’m at. Unfortunately, when you have the injury history that I have, sometimes when you don’t practice things get blown out of proportion.”

The 49ers might remain cautious with their star running back.

It’s a chance to use newly acquired Brian Robinson Jr. more than expected, and Isaac Guerendo is a speedy backup RB entering his second year who could also see the field for San Francisco.
