Coming into the 2024 NFL season, a seismic shift on the Eagles’ offensive line saw third-year lineman Cam Jurgens become the starting center full-time after Jason Kelce’s retirement.
The results are in the numbers, as Philadelphia posted a 14-3 record and running back Saquon Barkley had a historic campaign on the ground. Now, as the Eagles are one win away from the NFC championship, the offensive line may need to adjust as Jurgens’ status is in question.
Jurgens is dealing with a back injury that has been a major concern for the Eagles during their preparation for the NFC title game.
Will Jurgens be in action against the Commanders? Here is the latest on his status for Sunday’s game.

Multiple reports indicate Jurgens will be active in an emergency role, meaning his is not expected to start but can be called upon in a specific situation. If Jurgens does not play, LG Landon Dickerson will start at center and Tyler Steen will play LG.
Pregame, Jurgens was seen working out with Eagles backup QB Kenny Pickett, yet another sign he will only be used in an emergency role.

With his status in the air, Jurgens tested out his back during pregame warmups. He went through a series of strenuous tests to gauge his ability to play Sunday.
Serious workout for Jurgens. Really testing that back. Sure looks like he’s playing pic.twitter.com/zjEx5lStCi

Why Jalen Hurts is in uncharted territory in NFC Championship
Jurgens started in each of Philadelphia’s first 16 games this season, missing the season finale alongside several other key starters.
Adam Schefter tweeted that Jalen Hurts has started 73 games in the NFL, and he’s only taken snaps from Kelce and Jurgens. That could change Sunday with Dickerson under center.
With that in mind, Hurts will have to adjust and develop new chemistry with Dickerson on the fly. This could be a major story to follow given the gravity of Sunday’s game and the knee injury Hurts will play through.
