Inter Miami’s Luis Suarez to return to MLS action after three-match ban

Lionel Messi-led Inter Miami have been missing one of their key players, Luis Suarez, on the pitch for their last three Major League Soccer games.

After suffering a crushing 3-0 defeat against Seattle Sounders in the Leagues Cup final last month, a fight broke out at the center of the pitch, in which Suarez was seen yelling at one of the opponent team’s staff.

As the situation escalated, the Herons’ goalkeeper Oscar Ustari attempted to separate the Uruguayan star, who then spat at the face of Seattle Sounders security staffer Gene Ramirez.

Later, along with a six-match ban from the Leagues Cup, Suarez was also handed a three-match suspension by the MLS.

Inter Miami secured two victories and suffered one loss in Suarez’s absence, and now, the 38-year-old is expected to be back in action in the Herons’ upcoming league match.

Speaking ahead of the clash, head coach Javier Mascherano shared his thoughts on Suarez’s possible return to the pitch on Wednesday, mentioning that the ‘break was good for him.’

What did the Inter Miami boss say about Luis Suarez’s return after suspension?

Mascherano stated that Suarez has been regularly training with the team during his suspension and said,

“He’s been training well, as usual. Obviously Luis is a player who’s used to playing all the time, so I imagine he’s eager and anxious to get back on the field,” as per GOAL.

“We didn’t do anything specific with him during the suspension – he trained with the team the whole time. In a way, the break was good for him because he had been playing a lot of matches.”

Inter Miami are pitted against New York City next in MLS on September 24, at Citi Field. The Herons will also be eager to have Suarez back on the pitch, considering the forward has contributed to 13 goals and 16 assists in 40 matches this season.
