Inter Miami vs. Seattle Sounders prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets for MLS grudge match

A major spotlight will be on southern Florida on Tuesday evening as Inter Miami host Seattle Sounders in MLS play, with the two meeting two weeks after their testy Leagues Cup final.

The Sounders thrashed Inter Miami 3-0 at Lumen Field in late August to lift the trophy, leading to the Herons letting their frustrations boil over after the final whistle. Luis Suarez has been suspended for his part in the post-match fracas and will be unavailable for this game.

Lionel Messi, meanwhile, will look for revenge for that defeat, but there is a larger picture in mind as well. Inter Miami are slumping at a terrible time, as they managed to follow up that final defeat with a heavy handed loss at Charlotte FC in their return to league play last weekend.

Messi missed a penalty as Inter Miami suffered another 3-0 defeat in Charlotte, and Tomas Aviles was sent off with 11 minutes to go, leaving him suspended for this subsequent league game. It leaves the Herons in a perilous position with eight games to go, sitting in a wild card spot as the playoffs approach.

Seattle, meanwhile, are fourth in the Western Conference having played two more league games than Inter Miami, not within shout of the top spot but in a strong playoff position.

Inter Miami vs. Seattle Sounders prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Draw (+265 on DraftKings)
  • Score prediction: Inter Miami 2-2 Seattle Sounders

Inter Miami are in the midst of a minor slump, but it feels worse than it really is due to the nature of the two consecutive defeats. Regardless, this team is better than they’ve looked in the past two games.

Prior to these latest losses, Javier Mascherano’s team had lost just once in a nine-game stretch, including results against good teams such as FC Cincinnati, Necaxa, Pumas, LA Galaxy, Tigres, and Orlando City. This is still a strong team, even with its significant flaws.

Seattle, for all their recent success and grit, also have weaknesses. The injuries have taken a toll on the side, while club legends like Jordan Morris and Stefan Frei are advancing in age. Seattle also have to travel cross-country for this game on a quick turnaround, and they are feeling far less heat in the playoff race, rendering this match much more important for the hosts than the visitors. There are points in this for Inter Miami, even if its not all three.

Inter Miami vs. Seattle Sounders best bet

  • Pick: Lionel Messi anytime goal scorer
  • Odds: -115 (DraftKings)

Thanks to a two-game goal-less streak, the near even-money odds on Messi to find the net will never be better. The truth is, Messi remains the second-leading goal-scorer in MLS this season, and a likely bet to score every time he steps on the field.

With ]Suarez out, Inter Miami’s attacking threat was somewhat muted against Charlotte FC on the weekend, but they still managed to generate 1.0 xG outside of Messi’s penalty and were more likely to score than not. Messi himself was also unlucky, as his penalty effort came with a 0.98 xGOT value, indicating the save by Kristijan Kahlina was nothing short of miraculous.

Inter Miami are consistently better at home than on the road, and Messi should manage to find the back of the net here, as keeping him locked down for this long is highly unlikely.

Inter Miami vs. Seattle Sounders prop bet

Inter Miami matches have, since Messi arrived, followed largely the same formula: the two teams reach halftime with maybe one goal between them, after many missed opportunities, before the scoring opens up considerably after the break.

This has been the case for Inter Miami both in victory and defeat — as evident by both of their recent 3-0 losses. In each game, the winning team was 1-0 up at the break, before scoring two insurance goals after halftime.

The same is true for when Inter Miami win, such as their 3-1 victory over Orlando City when their rivals snatched a goal against the run of play just before the break before Inter Miami ran away with it in the final 15 minutes.
