Inter Miami duo Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez launch a new club

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez’s association on the pitch dates back to 2014, during their respective tenures at Barcelona. The iconic duo then returned alongside each other at Inter Miami in 2024.

Now it appears they have decided to take their longtime partnership on the pitch to become cofounders of a new club, Deportivo LSM.

The announcement of the club was made in a video shared on social media by Suarez, featuring Messi. The Argentine icon referred (comments via MercoPress) to this collaborative new venture as ‘very special.’

“It’s an honor and a joy that you invited me. This is a project you’ve been building for years, and now being part of it alongside you is very special,” said Messi.

Deportivo LSM is a new fourth-tier Division D Uruguayan soccer club and the name is a representation of the two footballers names.

When will Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez’s new club be seen in competitions?

In the announcement video, Suarez and Messi spoke about (comments via GOAL) his vision behind the creation of this new club and said,

“Today I want to offer Uruguayan football, which I love and grew up with since I was a kid, the opportunities and tools to help all teenagers and children grow. That’s why, with the club, we want to begin competing in the AUF (Uruguayan Football Federation) world, which is something that excites us enormously and is a huge step forward for me and my family in a project we believe in,” said Suarez.

“This dream doesn’t end here, sharing it with our family, friends, and close friends. We’ve experienced many things in common since we were kids; we’ve shared so many experiences at the top of football, and that’s why today I’d love to introduce a friend, a teammate. This project is the perfect place to continue sharing our vision of football and to have the same vision since our beginnings,” added Messi.

Deportivo LSM will compete in the official league system under the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) starting in 2026.

While Messi and Suarez have together made 114 goal contributions in 297 matches along with winning several accolades, it remains to be seen if the dynamic duo’s new venture is on the receiving end of similar success.
