Insider reveals three Mets players who could be traded this offseason

There’s no certainty in how the New York Mets’ 2025 season will play out.

New York holds a one-game lead over the Cincinnati Reds for the final NL Wild Card spot. So far, New York is 8-13 in September, their division title hopes have slipped away, and it’s left them with little margin for error in their final four games.

With this being said, fans aren’t too happy with how the regular season has played out. What could the Mets do this upcoming offseason to improve the roster for 2026?

What players could the Mets trade away to improve the roster?

On Wednesday, The New York Post‘s MLB insider Jon Heyman said three names that will most likely be the players that will be sent out this offseason.

Luisangel Acuna – The 23-year-old infielder was called up by the Mets as the No. 3 prospect in the 2024 season. Acuna hasn’t been able to live up to expectations in 2025. He’s been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse three different times this season, and in 172 at-bats in the majors this season, he’s yet to hit a home run and has tallied eight RBI and 16 stolen bases with a .238 batting average.

Mark Vientos – New York has been teasing the idea of a pre-arbitration extension with Vientos. He was one of the best bats in the 2024 postseason for the Mets (five home runs and 14 RBI in 13 games), but he has struggled to transition that into the 2025 season. Through 118 games this season, Vientos has a .235 batting average, .289 on-base percentage, and a .706 OPS with 17 home runs and 60 RBI.

Brett Baty – With the Mets’ large spending habits, they could look to improve at the third base position. Baty has put together the best season of his short career. Through 128 games, he has a .253 batting average, .312 on-base percentage, and a .740 OPS while hitting 17 home runs and 47 RBI. New York could look to trade the 25-year-old while he’s at the top of his game.
