Everybody seems to want Sidney Crosby to request a trade and leave the Pittsburgh Penguins.
No matter how many times the future Hall of Famer reiterates his love for the city and organization and desire to remain a Pen for life, the hockey world continues to speculate about his future.
It’s understandable, given the downward trajectory of the Penguins, who are just beginning a rebuild, but at a certain point, we have to start taking Crosby at his word.
The superstar center is tired of the questions about it, and perhaps NHL insider Frank Seravalli’s latest update on the situation will quiet the noise, at least for now. Here was what Seravalli had to say in an appearance on “The FAN Pregame” on Monday night, strongly refuting any talk of Crosby wanting to leave Pittsburgh.
“The conversation has to come from one person and one person only, which is number 87 himself, who needs to walk in the office, close the door, sit down, and have that really difficult conversation, which is ‘I’d like to move on. And so for everyone who wants to make these predictions of ‘Oh, he’s going to go to the Montreal Canadiens, he’s going to go to the Colorado Avalanche,’ whatever it is that you are predicting. I have not had one single hint, whisper, or innuendo from within that tight Sidney Crosby inner circle where he has even hinted at or mentioned this as something he’s thinking about or considering,” Seravalli said.
“I just don’t see a trade materializing for Crosby midseason, let alone given the fact that it hasn’t been a focal point and topic of conversation within his inner circle; I just don’t see it really at all,” Seravalli added.

The 38-year-old is about to begin the first season of the two-year, $17.4 million contract extension he signed with the Penguins just prior to the 2024-25 campaign.
Crosby has his Stanley Cups
If Sidney Crosby had yet to win a Stanley Cup, then leaving Pittsburgh to chase a championship would make a lot of sense. But this is a three-time Stanley Cup Champion we’re talking about; he’s won everything you could ever ask for.
Crosby is, of course, one of the most competitive athletes we’ve ever seen, and he’s admitted that the losing weighs on him, though even through the tough times, he’s never wavered on the desire to finish his career as a Penguin.
This situation should quiet down as the 2025-26 season kicks off, though we know that if the Penguins are near the bottom of the standings come the New Year, the rumors and speculation will come right back to the surface.
