CHONGQING, CHINA — San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox made a splash in the sneaker world, releasing his first signature sneaker last year under the Curry Brand umbrella — now the 27-year-old is bringing the heat with the Fox 2.
His second release continues with the running shoe-inspired shape, along with the now-signature strap, with the sneaker focusing on harnessing Fox’s breakneck speed on the court.
“He’s the fastest player in the league, so we want to make sure that the shoe is light, and he’s able to get in and out of cuts and up and down the court as quickly as possible, but we want to make sure it’s still supportive and stable,” Under Arour Senior Footwear designer Reggie Wilson told The Sporting News
“So some of those details, like the high-wrapping midsole, the strap, the heel counter, all those things help lock him in and make sure he’s not sliding around and that allows him to perform.
“We just want to have him in a place where he’s not thinking about his shoes. He’s thinking about getting the next basket, getting the next steal, getting the next assist.”
Under Armour
Wilson’s designs perfect the art of style and performance, honing in on the storytelling element of a signature shoe with plenty of personalised details on the Fox 2, taking inspiration from Fox’s family.
“Obviously, on the nose, you have the foxtail-inspired material on the tongue, so I think that’s really cool. The fox details here on the heel counter, that’s really important, the signature is there, but I think some of the more personal stuff are things that I think I’m really excited about — his family, his wife, and then his birthday. That’s a really cool detail in Roman numerals.
“All those elements that come together that makes it feel like a signature shoe, those are the details that we really try to strike the balance and really get into the details when it comes to that.”
The biggest change to the new model is in the sole, with the high-abrasion UA Flow outsole for added grip and stability off the first step, along with the TPE-blended sock liner for energy return, and an external TPU heel counter for lightweight support.

Under Armour
Fox has been with Under Armour since October 2023, fresh off being named an All-Star, Clutch Player of the Year, and All-NBA Third Team honours. Now with two signature sneakers under his belt, Fox has picked up the baton as the next generation face of Curry Brand, as the brand aims to help tell his story through his shoes, according to Gabe Heller, the Managing Director of Curry Brand.
“If you think about the Fox 1, we launched in December. We had a little bit less time. It was an introduction of consumers to De’Aaron with Curry Brand,” Heller told The Sporting News.
[Now] we’re in August, we have more time to tell stories, more time for us to mind those bits that we’re getting from De’Aaron, get his personality. I think of it like the second chapter is going to be a lot longer than the first, so we’re pretty excited about it.”
The Curry Fox 2 releases worldwide on August 22.
