Inside Jeremy Sochan’s globetrotting fashion journey, ever-changing hairstyles, and the Spurs bright future

Jeremy Sochan has never been one to blend in.

Since his college days at Baylor, he has stood out both on and off the court – a loud and well-developed fashion sense matched only by all-world skill and intensity during games.

Born in America, raised in England, starting his professional career in Germany and playing for the Polish national team, Sochan draws inspiration from across the globe, and his interest in fashion is a direct result of this, tying together his influences to produce one of the most unique personal styles in the entire NBA.

Speaking to The Sporting News, the San Antonio Spur opened up about his love of fashion, and how it is an extension of a more complex world view.

“I spent a lot of my childhood in the UK, but I also had the opportunity to travel a lot, whether back to Poland, or to the US,” Sochan said.

“I’ve always been interested in how people in different places across the world use fashion to express themselves.

“Spending time in so many parts of the world has been really cool. Just seeing different types of fashion, I think it’s helped me want to explore more and try different things.”

A quick scroll through his Instagram page confirms that Sochan is willing to push the limits and dig deep into his closet; a Maison Margiela hoddie paired with cowboy boots is followed by jorts and Nike Dunks, a neon-green Chrome Hearts cardigan makes an appearance, and an all-white double-breasted suit is worn shirtless with Rick Owens Dr. Martens.

Sochan blends current fashion trends with his own flare wherever possible, creating a personal style which feels uber-relatable but also incredibly unique, no doubt inspired by any number of global influences.

“I would say the English style has a wider spectrum with sportswear tracksuits, athletic wear and running trainers and then of course the classy/preppy European influence,” Sochan said about the fashion scenes of both nations he has called home.

“Whereas American fashion is more about making a statement and showing out flashy.”

After an impressive collegiate career, Sochan was taken with the ninth pick in the 2022 draft, joining the historic Spurs franchise under legendary coach Gregg Popovich.

It didn’t take long for NBA life to accelerate his interest – both due to the significant pay rise, but also increased access, becoming a part of an incredibly fashion-forward league that allowed and even encouraged outlandish looks.

“Having the platform and so many opportunities to try something new, whether it’s in a tunnel walk or trying a new hair colour,” Sochan said.

“There are so many creative people across the league and I think we all inspire
each other to show off our unique style.”

Sochan’s hair has been his secret weapon in assembling some of the league’s most impressive fits, never scared to don a new colour or design to go along with his deep wardrobe selections.

“I like to have fun with it, but there’s also some kind of meaning behind the changes,” he said.

“I think it’s a form of expression, and it can bring people together. It’s fun when the fans get into it too. I like to see their reactions when I try something new.”

His hairstyling was on full display recently during the Spurs trip to Paris, with the 21-year-old going blue to match a Louis Vuitton outfit.

“To have that sports and fashion crossover and to be in a city like Paris was just really cool,” Sochan said of his trip to the homeland of star teammate Victor Wembanyama.

“It gave us all a larger platform. It felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity, so we all really took advantage of as much as we could during the trip.”

Sochan partnered with athleisure brand Alo ahead of the trip to France, with the label helping to fit him out during his time in The City of Love, something that he said helped to unlock a new aspect of his fashion sense.

“It’s been a really cool partnership. It’s been fun to try different pieces and products,” he said.

“They made me a custom outfit for one of the games in Paris, which was really cool.”

Throughout his first three years in the NBA, Sochan has quickly become one of the leading names in athlete style, routinely turning heads with his eclectic outfits.

Is he the most fashionable man on the Spurs? “Definitely,” he says.

“But we have a lot of fashionable guys. I’ll give them their credit. I think we all do a good job.”
