Arsenal are looking to refresh their roster this summer, and while they have been slightly dormant in terms of transfers, they are working on deals in the background.
With every incoming player, the Gunners will also offload a few players who have become surplus to Mikel Arteta’s requirements.
According to fresh updates via BBC journalist Sami Mockbel, Arsenal are looking to mutually terminate Takehiro Tomiyasu’s contract.
The Japanese international is recovering from a knee surgery, having featured for them for only six minutes in the Premier League 2024/25 campaign.
Tomiyasu looked like a promising player after he joined Arsenal in 2021 from Bologna. However, his injuries meant that he never got the opportunity to cement himself in the starting eleven.
Tomiyasu continues his rehabilitation and will be out of action for another five months. The 26-year-old missed the start of last season aswell due to a knee injury that also required surgery in 2023.

His existing contract was due to expire at the end of next season, but both parties reached an agreement to mutually terminate the contract.
What’s next for Takehiro Tomiyasu?
Tomiyasu, for now, will focus on getting fit in the next few months. But as per reports, there are Saudi Pro League clubs interested in the 26-year-old versatile defender.
The Japan international could also return to Italy, where he made his name in European football. However, it remains to be seen where he eventually ends up this summer.
On the other hand, Arsenal are working on their defensive reinforcements as they are keeping close tabs on signing Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.
They may also make a move for Ajax defender Jorrel Hato, with whom they have been linked for a long time.
Tomiyasu will be the second defender to leave Arsenal this summer after Kieran Tierney’s return to Celtic FC. Meanwhile, Oleksandr Zinchenko could also leave Emirates in this window.
