Indianapolis Colts biggest risers in NFL power rankings ahead of Week 2 test vs. Broncos

The Indianapolis Colts put together an utterly dominant Week 1. They outclassed the Miami Dolphins everywhere on the field.

And now, the Daniel Jones-led Colts are the biggest risers in the Week 2 NFL power rankings put together by Vinnie Iyer for The Sporting News.

Iyer had the Colts as his No. 30 team entering Week 1. Now he’s got them at No. 19, an 11-spot jump, after the 33-8 win over the Dolphins.

“The Colts jumped up here despite facing a bad Dolphins because of how smooth offensively they suddenly looked with Daniel Jones operating and the defense almost pitching a shutout,” Iyer writes.

There’s no time to be content with that for Indy, though. They get a stern test in Week 2 when they travel to play the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos pulled out a Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans by holding them to four field goals. Bo Nix had his struggles, but Denver did enough to win behind a sturdy defense.

Iyer kept the Broncos at No. 11 in his ranks this week after opening them in that same spot before Week 1.

“The Broncos didn’t expect Bo Nix to open up in a sloppy sophomore slump, but the good news is they found a missing groove in the running game and also played shutdown defense,” Iyer wrote. “They need to clean up some things before facing a tougher opponent.”

This game will tell us a lot about the Colts. The Broncos’ defense should provide a much, much sterner test than Miami’s did.

Jones will have to be sharp to win this football game. If he is, and if the Colts do, they’ll be in even higher regard in a week’s time.
