In-demand Premier League star says ‘yes’ to joining Man City

Manchester City’s list of transfer targets seems to run long for this summer.

Man City head coach Pep Guardiola had to deal with multiple injuries in the 2024-25, having to place stars in positions that they don’t usually play in.

As Guardiola & Co. are looking to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season, Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Rayan Ait-Nouri has been heavily linked with a move to the Etihad.

Ait-Nouri has turned heads with his performances for Wolves this season, contributing to nine clean sheets while also netting five goals and providing seven assists in 41 matches across all competitions.

Amid the rumors linking him to Man City, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Ait-Nouri has said yes to joining Guardiola’s squad.

Following a season-long loan from his boyhood club Angers, Ait-Nouri joined Wolves in 2021. The Ligue 1 side’s sporting director Laurent Boissier revealed (comments via City Xtra) that the 23-year-old was very close to joining Man City in the January transfer window.

“Personally, I’ll only absolutely believe in Rayan’s transfer when it actually it happens. You should know that in January his transfer fell through at 11:30 at night in [Manchester] City’s offices.”

While no official agreement has been announced from either side as of yet, Ait-Nouri spoke about his current objective and dropped what might be considered a subtle hint about his chances of joining Man City.

What did Rayan Ait-Nouri say ahead of his potential Man City move?

When asked to share his thoughts on his potential move to Man City this summer, Ait-Nouri told TSA Algerie (comments via Sport Witness) that he is currently ‘focusing’ on helping his national team in the upcoming matches of the World Cup African qualifiers. However, the defender also referred to Guardiola as ‘a great coach.’

“I’m focusing on the national team. We’ll see. The most important thing is the two games we’re going to play with the national team. Everyone knows that Pep Guardiola is a great coach,” said Ait-Nouri.

While his contract with Wolves is valid until the end of June 2026, it remains to be seen if Ait-Nouri makes it to Guardiola’s backline this summer.
