A resurgent Madison Keys will be hoping to defy the odds once again as she takes on two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the Australian Open.
The American, seeded 19th in Melbourne, knocked out Elena Rybakina in the fourth round before stunning World No 2 Iga Swiatek 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 in the semifinal on Thursday. It’s been a long time coming for the 29-year-old Keys, who’s back in a Grand Slam final for the first time since falling to Sloane Stephens at the 2017 US Open.
Meanwhile, Sabalenka is bidding to become the first woman since Martina Hingis in 1999 to claim three straight Australian Open titles. The 26-year-old, who beat Paula Badosa 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinal, has dropped only one set so far.
