The Astros host the Mets in a Grapefruit League duel on Tuesday afternoon between two World Series contenders.
New York received an immediate jolt from its newest megastar, Juan Soto. Soto — who inked a 15-year, $765 million contract to switch boroughs from the Bronx to Queens — launched a towering home run in his first Spring Training at-bat on Saturday.
On the flip side, Houston lost a couple of stars over the offseason, trading Kyle Tucker — netting a three-player haul including Cam Smith — and failing to re-sign linchpin Alex Bregman. But the Astros are still plenty formidable, with Jose Altuve and the slugging Yordan Alvarez leading the charge.
Right-hander Ronel Blanco will get the ball for the Astros on Tuesday, after Monday’s game was postponed due to inclement weather. Blanco pitched to a 2.80 ERA last season, his first full year in the big leagues.
