New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge has defied MLB history with his success at his height.
The outfielder has been able to become a complete hitter despite being one of the tallest players in MLB history. Typically, tall hitters have issues becoming well-rounded players at the major league level.
Judge, though, has gotten to the point where he not only is among the league-leaders in homers every year, but he’s now a batting champion after producing the highest batting average in the league in 2025.
Judge’s height is part of his story, but not his entire story. Here’s a breakdown of where Judge’s height ranks in baseball history.

Tallest position players in MLB history
- 1B Tony Clark: 6-foot-8
- 1B Nate Freiman: 6-foot-8
Two players are tied for the honor of being the tallest position player in MLB history. Tony Clark, a former first baseman who was named the executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association after he retired, became the tallest non-pitcher in MLB history at 6-foot-8 when he made his debut.
Clark had a long career, playing in 15 MLB seasons for a variety of different teams. He held this record by himself until first baseman Nate Freiman made his MLB debut, although he only played in 116 games over the course of a two-year MLB career.

How tall is Aaron Judge compared to Jose Altuve?
Aaron Judge’s height really went viral in 2017, when the Yankees played the Houston Astros in the ALCS. That year, second baseman Jose Altuve won MVP over Judge as the two face off in the playoffs, with one of the tallest players in the league battling one of the shortest.
Altuve stands at just 5-foot-6, and when Judge makes it to second base against the Astros, the height difference between the two is obvious.
