Contrary to popular belief, golf has rarely been an old man’s game. The sport is shaped by its youngsters, the 20- and 30-somethings who litter each major tournament’s entry lists.
More often than not, it’s those vivacious talents who finish at the top of the leaderboard. Yet, at the 2025 U.S. Open, ageless wonder Adam Scott has turned back the clock, producing the sort of steady putting and strong striking that has defined his nearly 25-year professional career.
He’s been rewarded for his patience. Scott is in the hunt for a U.S. Open title, keeping cool even as Oakmont — and stormy weather — scorns his fellow competitors.

So, just how old is Scott? And how would a U.S. Open title fit into his career timeline at major tournaments? Here’s what you need to know.
How old is Adam Scott?
Scott is 44. He’ll turn 45 on July 16. The Australian has put himself in prime position to contend for a U.S. Open title at Oakmont. If he were to land the famous prize, he would etch his way into the record books in more ways than one.
Scott would become the second-oldest player to ever take home the gold at the U.S. Open with a win at Oakmont. Hale Irwin would still retain his place at the top of the totem pole; his 1990 conquest at Medinah came when he was 45 years and 16 days old.
Scott has been a fixture in the PGA Tour for the past 20 years. He’s quietly put forth a trophy-laden career, landing a green jacket in 2013 as well as Players and Tour Championships in 2004 and 2006, respectively.
Has Adam Scott won a major?
Scott has a major title to his name, donning the green jacket at the 2013 Masters after besting Angel Cabrera in a sudden death playoff.
In addition to his Augusta National triumph, Scott has posted a handful of top-four finishes in major competitions during his career. He placed third at the 2006 and 2018 PGA Championships, fourth at the 2015 U.S. Open and second — one stroke off the lead — at the 2015 Open Championship.
