The Toronto Blue Jays took Game 1 of the World Series over the Los Angeles Dodgers, and after the Dodgers’ Game 2 win, the series is even at 1-1 as it shifts to Los Angeles.
On the mound for the Blue Jays in a huge Game 3 matchup is veteran pitcher and future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer. In his 18th season in the Majors, Scherzer, once he throws one pitch for the Blue Jays, he’ll make MLB history.
As MLB analyst Sarah Langs shared on Twitter/X, once Scherzer pitches for the Blue Jays, he’ll make MLB history as the first pitcher to appear in a World Series for four different organizations.
Max Scherzer to make MLB World Series history with Blue Jays start vs. Dodgers
“Max Scherzer will be the first player to pitch for four teams in the World Series in his career.” Langs shared. “The only position player to appear for four teams in the World Series is Lonnie Smith.”

In Scherzer’s Hall of Fame career, he’s won two World Series, one in 2019 with the Washington Nationals and another in 2023 with the Texas Rangers. In 2012, despite a 2.08 ERA in three starts, he and the Detroit Tigers came up short against the San Francisco Giants.
Now with the Blue Jays, Scherzer has made just one start in the playoffs, with a 3.18 ERA and one win so far. He’ll get the mound for Game 3 of the World Series, with a chance to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead, and guarantee, at worst, a Game 6 in Toronto.
In the regular season, Scherzer had a 5.19 ERA in 17 outings for the Blue Jays. While the 40-year-old hasn’t been at his best, he still can pitch at an elite level when needed.

If he can help the Blue Jays win the World Series, he will join Lonnie Smith not just as the only player to play for four different teams in the World Series, but also win three of those World Series appearances.
Scherzer, in 19 games in his MLB career against the Dodgers, has a .209 batting average against him with 10 home runs allowed and 119 strikeouts. Earlier in the year, Scherzer went six innings, allowing two earned runs in a loss.
Game 3 of the World Series begins on Monday, October 27th at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time in Los Angeles. Scherzer will take on Tyler Glasnow in a huge matchup between veteran pitchers looking to give their team the advantage in the World Series.
