Matthew Golden looked all set to enter his rookie season with the No. 22 on his Green Bay Packers jersey.
But then soon after Micah Parsons claimed No. 1 for himself, Golden got on the single-digit train. He opted for No. 0.
The first-round rookie wide receiver made history in the process.

Green Bay Packers’ jersey number history with No. 0
There had never been a Green Bay Packers player to wear No. 0 before this season.
When Golden chose No. 0, he became the first-ever in the historic franchise to don that digit.
There’s one simple reason for this: The NFL didn’t allow No. 0 on jerseys until the 2023 season.
So all those Packers legends, even if they had wanted, could never have been 0.

Why did Matthew Golden choose jersey number 0?
Golden had chosen 22 in homage to his grandmother’s favorite number (2) and the fact that the last Packers’ first-round receiver was drafted in 2002.
But he felt the draw of having just one digit on his back.
“I always wanted a single digit,” Golden said, via the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. “I talked to my family. They (the Packers) told me the options that I had, I talked to them about the numbers and they said zero never been worn here. So, obviously, it’s gonna be first time in franchise history. For me, just make a name for myself and that number, so I feel like it’d be good.”
