How many points did Cooper Flagg score today? Full stats, results, highlights from debut in Mavericks vs. Spurs

JUMP TO:

On Thursday night, Cooper Flagg became the second-youngest player in NBA history to start in his debut, just two days older than LeBron James was for the Cavaliers back in October 2003. The Dallas Mavericks phenom, regarded as one of the best prospects of the past decade, gave NBA fans the first glimpses of what’s to come.

Flagg made his league debut as a point guard for the Mavericks, who are without Kyrie Irving to begin the 2025-26 season. The former Duke star, however, had his night overshadowed by a dominant performance by San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama. The Mavericks fell 125-92, as Flagg struggled shooting the ball in the first half.

Still, Flagg wound up with a double-double in his first NBA action. He’ll have room to grow after the slow offensive start, but there will be plenty of time for Flagg to get adjusted on a star-studded Mavericks squad throughout the long NBA season.

How did Flagg do in his first NBA game? The Sporting News tracked the Mavericks rookie’s stats and highlights from his debut against the Spurs on Thursday night.

Cooper Flagg updates, highlights from Mavericks vs. Spurs

All times ET.

12:03 p.m. — Flagg’s night appears to be over as the Mavericks head for an 0-1 record, falling victim to an incredible Wembanyama performance. The scoring wasn’t there for the phenom in the first half, but he did pick it up to post a double-double, going for 10 points and 10 rebounds in his first NBA game.

Still, there will be some areas to improve on for Flagg. Anthony Davis shot 7-for-22 in the game as well, while Wembanyama’s 40 points will give the Spurs a win.

11:47 p.m. — Cooper Flagg picked it up in the third quarter, scoring all eight of his points to go with 10 rebounds. However, Dallas trails by 21 heading into the final frame.

11:31 p.m. — San Antonio is pulling away in the season-opener behind an incredible night for Wembanyama, who’s putting on a clinic all over the floor.

11:17 p.m. — It took 18 minutes, but Cooper Flagg is on the board in his NBA career. With a mid-range jumper, he scores his first points with the Mavericks.

11:01 p.m. — San Antonio is cruising at the halfway point of each team’s season-opener. Flagg has yet to score in his debut, while Davis has 12 points but is 3-for-13 from the field. It’s been the Wemby show in Dallas, as he put up 21 points and eight rebounds in the first half.

10:37 p.m. — Flagg has remained quiet in the first half of his NBA debut thus far, scoreless in 13 minutes with five rebounds. Victor Wembanyama is already turning in a big night for the Spurs though, with 15 points in 13 minutes.

10:12 p.m. — Flagg’s first field goal attempt was almost an awesome alley-oop from Anthony Davis, but he couldn’t quite get the ball down. Dallas has an early 27-25 lead behind 10 points from Davis, while Wembanyama has eight for San Antonio.

9:50 p.m. — Cooper Flagg’s NBA debut is under way. He becomes the second-youngest player to start a game in his NBA debut, just two days older than LeBron James was.

9:29 p.m. — Flagg’s NBA debut is almost here. He’s officially the starting point guard.

8:18 p.m. — The presumptive Mavs lineup that puts Flagg at point guard: Flagg, Klay Thompson, P.J. Washington, Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively II. Dallas is already starting its season with huge lineups.

8:17 p.m. — For those wondering about the patch on Flagg’s jersey tonight: it’s an “NBA Debut” patch that will only be present for his first game.

8:15 p.m. — It may be getting lost in the Flagg-Wembanyama matchup, but a reminder: the top two picks in June’s NBA Draft are going head-to-head in their debuts tonight. Dylan Harper vs. Cooper Flagg will become the second time since 1966 that the top two picks in the same NBA Draft will face each other in the first career regular-season game for both players, according to the NBA.

The only other instance was Karl-Anthony Towns (No. 1) vs. D’Angelo Russell (No. 2) in Timberwolves vs. Lakers in October 2015.

8:14 p.m. — Here’s a look at Flagg’s arrival to his first regular season NBA game:

8:12 p.m. — With the Mavericks being without Kyrie Irving to start the season, they’re already handing the offense over to Cooper Flagg. The 6-foot-9 rookie will officially be making his debut listed as the team’s point guard.

Don’t be surprised if the former Duke star initiates Dallas’ offense tonight.
