Lakers star Anthony Davis had his season put on pause when he suffered an injury against the 76ers in late January.
Davis, who has dealt with injuries throughout his career, had only missed three games in 2024-25 before the latest injury. However, he had to sit on Thursday when the Lakers played the Wizards, and he is expected to miss at least several more games as he recovers.
With Los Angeles set to face the Knicks on Saturday, here’s the latest on Davis’ injury.

What is Anthony Davis’ injury?
Davis suffered an abdominal muscle strain in the first quarter of the Lakers’ game against the Sixers on Jan. 28, 2025. He left that game and did not return, playing 10 minutes in the contest.
An abdominal strain can be tricky, and Davis’ absence depends on the severity of the injury. He could return fairly soon if it’s a mild case, but a more severe case would have a longer recovery time.

How long is Anthony Davis out?
It is unclear exactly when Davis will return.
The Lakers announced on Jan. 29 that the medical staff would re-evaluate Davis in one week, but didn’t give much more information.

While that doesn’t necessarily mean that Davis will return in one week even if he is cleared, Lakers head coach JJ Redick is hopeful that Davis will return to the court in short order.
