How Lions’ Terrion Arnold is breaking the mold with work ethic, maturity

Terrion Arnold is entering his second season in the NFL with the Detroit Lions, but based on his actions this offseason, you’d think he’s been around longer than that.

Arnold had a strong first season with the Lions and showed plenty of promise. The Alabama product started all season for Detroit and posted very strong coverage numbers, with a completion rate allowed of 55.6% and a passer rating of 93.7.

Ahead of Year 2, Arnold isn’t just looking to improve his own game, he’s also trying to help out his teammates, including veterans who have been in the league much longer than he has.

We found that out thanks to fellow cornerback and free-agent signing D.J. Reed, who recently revealed that Arnold has given him some pointers on how he can improve after watching the former New York Jets cornerback’s film.

And, not only did Arnold offer some advice, it turns out it was the right advice.

“He hit me up a couple of days ago when I was practicing, and he was basically watching my film for me and telling me what I need to work on,” Reed said, according to Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit.

“And he was correct, too, with what he emphasized I needed to work on. So the next day, I went and worked on that.”

Arnold studying the film of his teammates shows next-level maturity, and the fact that Reed didn’t react negatively to a younger player trying to help him also shows that there is a lot of respect in the locker room for the former first-round pick.

But Arnold isn’t leaving his youth behind, that’s for sure. Veteran Avonte Maddox noted that Arnold’s youthful energy is infectious.

“(Terrion Arnold) is actually No. 1. I’m always telling him to take his medicine, calm him down a little bit,” Maddox said, per Detroit Football Network’s Justin Rogers. “…It lifts me up. It makes me feel like I’m back to when I was their age, just cracking jokes. They’re like, what? 21? 22? I’m 29. I was jumping off the porch and walking around school when they were coming out the womb.”

We already know Arnold is talented, but the level of maturity, leadership, attention to detail and work ethic he’s displaying gives more help that he’s going to turn into the elite cornerback Detroit envisioned when it drafted him in 2024.
