How Justin Fields, Garrett Wilson rekindle Ohio State college connection in NFL with Jets

Justin Fields and Garrett Wilson have been here before.

Not on an NFL field together, no. But in a big game as a QB-WR combo, for sure.

Fields and Wilson have been reunited in 2025 with the New York Jets after Fields was signed as a free agent in the offseason from the Pittsburgh Steelers to be the Jets’ new starting quarterback.

Wilson has been with the Jets since he was drafted, and now he has his former Ohio State teammate back with him.

When Fields signed, Wilson said he was “thrilled” to have his friend back to throw him the football.

Did Justin Fields and Garrett Wilson play together in college at Ohio State?

Yes, Justin Fields and Garrett Wilson were teammates with the Buckeyes.

They played two seasons together, 2019 and 2020.

Justin Fields college stats with Garrett Wilson

Fields and Wilson were incredibly tough on opposing defenses in college.

When Fields targeted Wilson in their two seasons together, they connected for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Wilson caught 22 passes of 20-plus yards from Fields.

After Fields left for the NFL, Wilson had one more year, and he caught 70 passes in that junior season to turn himself into a star pro prospect, too.

The only bummer: They didn’t win a national championship together. They fell in the national title game in January 2021 to Alabama, 52-24.
