How Brock Purdy’s contract extension affects the future of Eagles’ Jalen Hurts

Now that Brock Purdy’s massive extension has been inked, the NFL world turns its focus to what’s next.

C.J. Stroud of the Texans will be eligible for his first big contract after next season. Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson, and Will Levis probably aren’t due for big paydays.

So who else will be affected by Purdy’s new contract?

One Super Bowl-winning quarterback could be asking for a pay raise.

How Jalen Hurts is affected by Brock Purdy’s contract

In 2023, Hurts signed a five-year, $255 million contract extension. At the time, it made him the highest-paid player in the NFL annually.

Just two years later, Hurts ranks 10th on the APY list (per Over The Cap).

Quarterback APY Total Value
Dak Prescott $60M $240M
Joe Burrow $55M $275M
Josh Allen $55M $330M
Jordan Love $55M $220M
Trevor Lawrence $55M $275M
Tua Tagovailoa $53.1M $212.4M
Jared Goff $53M $212M
Justin Herbert $52.5M $262.5M
Lamar Jackson $52M $260M
Jalen Hurts $51M $255M

The Eagles’ quarterback is the only player on this list with a Super Bowl.

Now with Hurts ranking below ringless NFC signal callers like Purdy, Jared Goff, and Dak Prescott, the reigning Super Bowl MVP could knock at Howie Roseman’s door very soon.

The precedent for a quarterback extension in the middle of their contract has been set with Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs’ quarterback restructured his agreement in 2023 to earn the most money in NFL history over a four-year span.

Hurts could argue that coming off his first ring and second Super Bowl appearance he should get a pay raise.

Once Stroud’s contract is inked, it’s likely Hurts will be out of the top 10 highest-paid quarterbacks yearly.

Now with Purdy’s contract on the books, Howie Roseman and other general managers have to be expecting their QB’s to come to the table soon.
