The Toronto Blue Jays found a response.
Even after an 18-inning heartbreak less than 24 hours earlier, the Blue Jays weren’t fazed.
Instead, they delivered a bounceback victory on Tuesday night in World Series Game 4. And now they’re tied in the series with the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2-2.
That turns this essentially into a best-of-three, rapid-fire surge to the finish line of the MLB season.
Here’s how the Blue Jays did it in Game 4:
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. solves Shohei Ohtani
Shohei Ohtani got Vladdy swinging on a sweeper in his first at bat.
The next time, with a man on, Ohtani tried the sweeper again but left it up. Guerrero didn’t miss.
The Blue Jays trailed 1-0 at the time, but Guerrero’s powerful swing yanked the ball out to left field and made it 2-1 Toronto. They wouldn’t trail again.

Shane Bieber makes trade worthwhile
The Blue Jays traded before the deadline for Shane Bieber from the Cleveland Guardians for moments like this.
They didn’t know then for sure whether they’d be on this stage, or whether Bieber’s rehab from Tommy John surgery would finish smoothly.
But it all has worked out. And on this night, Bieber went 5.1 innings and allowed just one run. A night after huge bullpen usage, Bieber did enough to limit how much the relievers had to throw, and he earned the pitching victory.

A classic Blue Jays inning
That seventh inning was everything the Blue Jays are, sparked by the bottom half of the order.
Daulton Varsho led off with a single, then Ernie Clement smashed a double off the left-center wall.
After a pitching change, Andres Gimenez singled in Varsho.
Two batters later, Ty France had an RBI groundout.
After an intentional walk to Guerrero, Bo Bichette drove in Gimenez with a single.
And then Addison Barger singled home Guerrero for a 6-1 edge.
The bullpen made things interesting in the ninth, but that ended up being enough.
