Heat predicted to cut ties with Bam Adebayo via future trade

The Miami Heat have endured a drama-filled 2024-25 campaign.

The Jimmy Butler saga took a toll on the organization to start the year, but things could get even more interesting later on.

In an article predicting eight stars that could demand a trade in the future, Sir Charles in Charge’s Michael Saenz surprisingly included a Miami Heat standout big man on the compelling list.

“There could be some pushback with this take, but I do believe that there’s a chance we could get to a point where Bam Adebayo requests a trade from the Miami Heat,” Saenz wrote Saturday.

“For a second, let’s paint the picture of the situation that Bam currently finds himself in. Bam is going to be 28 years old by the time next season begins and the Heat just traded away the best player that he’s ever played with.”

“Unless the Heat are able to swing a big move for a star player during the offseason, it’s difficult to envision the Heat being substantially better next season.”

“Considering Miami is somewhat of an afterthought in the Eastern Conference at the moment, to even their own admission, there’s reason to believe tough times are ahead for the Heat.”

“Again, a trade for a star player this summer could completely change the outlook for the team. But, at least for now, it doesn’t appear as if that is going to come easy for Miami.”

Adebayo is undoubtedly one of the most talented low-post-oriented players in the NBA.

From facing up on either block and going to work at a reasonable pace to altering layup attempts at the last second, the Kentucky product continues to wreak havoc on both ends in Year 8.

However, Adebayo hasn’t been as productive as in previous years, as the 2017 first-round pick’s scoring, rebounding, and field goal percentage have decreased slightly.

Adebayo averages 16.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per contest while shooting 47.4% from the field in 52 games.

Still, there’s no denying Adebayo is among the Heat’s most impactful contributors, but his relationship with the franchise could deteriorate if Miami doesn’t attempt to improve its roster drastically.

Although Butler’s final months in South Beach weren’t pleasant, the six-time All-Star guided the Heat to two NBA finals appearances during his 5.5-year tenure with the organization.

Without Butler, Miami could struggle to compete in the Eastern Conference, potentially frustrating a fierce competitor like Adebayo.

It wouldn’t be wise to rule out a future trade involving Adebayo and the Heat.
