It has been an up and down season for the Miami Heat thus far and they are expected to make some major changes ahead of the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline.
Of course, the Heat are still trying to find a new home for their superstar forward Jimmy Butler after he demanded a trade. With the Heat recently suspending Butler indefinitely, it is clear that he has likely played his last game in a Heat jersey, but they have yet to find a trade suitor for him that would give up what Miami wants in return.
Without Butler, the Heat will now lack a true superstar on their roster. Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro have been great this season, but with Miami currently sitting sixth in the Eastern Conference standings with a 23-22 record, it is likely that they will try to add another star ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline.
One player who has recently become available is De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings. The Kings are reportedly open to trading Fox in the coming week, and the Heat may be one of the teams that could show interest in him.
In a possible trade, Miami could send Terry Rozier, Duncan Robinson and draft capital to Sacramento for Fox and Trey Lyles. The Kings are looking to acquire both win-now players and draft capital in a trade for Fox, which they would receive in this deal.
For the Heat, they would not only add another star to their roster but they would also reunite Fox with Adebayo. Of course, the two played with each other during their time in college at the University of Kentucky, and they are great friends.
By adding Fox, the Heat would create a dominant backcourt duo in him and Herro. Fox is a great scorer and playmaker, who also has been great defensively, and would give the Heat a true first option with Butler now out of the question.
If the Heat were to pull this deal off, they would become immediate contenders in the East, especially if they are able to add more role players in a potential Butler trade.
