Hawks’ Trae Young named as injury replacement for 2025 NBA All-Star Game

After believing that he was snubbed from the 2025 NBA All-Star Game, Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young will be an All-Star after all.

On Monday, NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced that he has added Young to the All-Star roster as an injury replacement for Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis will miss the All-Star game due to a calf injury that has kept him out of the lineup since Feb. 2, but he is expected to return to action shortly after the All-Star break.

For Young, he was displeased after not being named an All-Star whenever the rosters were revealed two weeks ago.

“It’s getting ‘Traed’ at this point,” Young wrote on social media after he was not named as an All-Star.

While Young was originally not named an All-Star, he will now travel to San Francisco to be part of All-Star weekend, and it is well-deserved. The 26-year-old is having an incredible season despite the Hawks struggling.

This season, Young is averaging 23.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 11.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 40.9% from the field and 34.0% from three-point range. His 11.4 assists per game leads the NBA.

Of course, this will be Young’s fourth All-Star appearance as well as his second consecutive appearance after he was named as an injury replacement in last season’s All-Star game. He has seen a dip in his scoring numbers and shooting percentages this season, but he has continued to show why he is one of the best playmakers and passers in the NBA as he leads the league in assists per game.

Young will join Team Chuck, the eight-man team drafted by TNT analyst and NBA legend Charles Barkley. He will play alongside Nikola Jokić, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Victor Wembanyama, Pascal Siakam, Karl-Anthony towns, Donovan Mitchell and Alperen Şengün.

Fans can catch Young and Team Barkley in action in the 2025 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 8:00 p.m. EST on TNT.
