After a successful start to his career, Sam Burns is looking to capture his first major championship at the 2025 U.S. Open.
The 28 year old and five-time winner on the PGA Tour is tied atop the leaderboard with J.J. Spaun, after battling through two days at Oakmont, one of the toughest courses in the world.
Burns has been playing some of his best golf of the year heading into the 2025 U.S. Open, after losing in a playoff to Ryan Fox at the RBC Canadian Open June 8. He hopes he can ride that momentum through Sunday.

Has Sam Burns won a major?
Burns has not won a major yet. The closest he’s come was tying for ninth at the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst, where Bryson DeChambeau took home the trophy. The LSU product has three top-25 finishes in majors in his career.

Sam Burns has won five times on the PGA Tour. Most of his victories came in 2021 and 2022, including a playoff victory over Scottie Scheffler at the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge.

Here’s a look at all of Burns’ victories on tour over the years.
2021 Valspar Championship
Burns won for the first time on the PGA Tour at the 2021 Valspar Championship. He finished at -17, beating out 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley by three strokes.
2021 Sanderson Farms Championship
Burns won again a few months later at the 2021 Sanderson Farms Championship. He carded a -22 for the tournament, holding off Cameron Young by one stroke in the final round.
2022 Valspar Championship
Burns successfully defended his Valspar Championship title in 2022 for his third win on the PGA Tour. He defeated Davis Riley in a playoff and finished at -17 for the tournament.
2022 Charles Schwab Challenge
Burns earned his fourth career win and second career playoff victory at the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge. He knocked off world No.1 golfer Scottie Schefflef (the only playoff loss of Scheffler’s career), to claim the trophy. His final score was -9.
2023 World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play
Burns’ most recent win came in a match play tournament. He outlasted Cameron Young 6-5 in the final match at the 2023 World Golf Championships.
