Guardians’ Steven Kwan’s most on-brand at bat ever is heroic in All-Star Game

This was an at bat made for Steven Kwan.

The Cleveland Guardians’ lone player actually playing in the All-Star Game came up in the most pivotal spot Tuesday night.

The American League had the tying run on third base with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. Dominant Mets closer Edwin Diaz was on the mound.

The AL just needed a ball in play to have a chance.

Kwan was the man for the job.

He took a ball, then a strike, then swung and missed.

But on 1-2, Kwan fouled off two difficult pitches, including one with a swing so late he practically took the ball out of the catcher’s glove.

That set Kwan up to pound the sixth pitch of the exchange into the ground toward third base. He beat it out for a game-tying infield single.

Kwan at his finest.
