Grizzlies’ Santi Aldama gets $14.1 million contract update after Desmond Bane trade

The Memphis Grizzlies have already shaken up their roster this offseason by trading away Desmond Bane.

Another flashpoint is coming soon. They’ve got to decide what to do with power forward Santi Aldama.

Aldama is a restricted free agent, which means the Grizzlies can match offer sheets from other teams.

The Ringer’s Zach Lowe expects Aldama to have full mid-level exception deals offered to him, a value of $14.1 million this offseason.

Will Memphis match that if Aldama is offered it, or more?

It remains to be seen what the Grizzlies want to do here.

Aldama is 6-foot-11 and only 24 years old, and he can both shoot and pass.

In 2024-25, Aldama set career highs in points per game (12.5), rebounds (6.4), assists (2.9) and steals (0.8).

He also had his best 3-point shooting season, at 36.8% from beyond the arc.

Aldama is certainly a player Memphis could still use.

One problem the Grizzlies have is they are staring a huge Jaren Jackson Jr. extension in the face, and they may have to clear out money elsewhere to get it done.

Ideally, Aldama won’t be the cap casualty, but the upcoming start of free agency will show us more about what Memphis really is trying to do.
