Giants predicted to bolster rotation by landing Japanese phenom

The San Francisco Giants made a big splash last month when they signed star shortstop Willy Adames to a seven-year, $182 million contract. The move gave them a centerpiece to build around in their lineup.

However, they could still use some help on the pitching front, as they did lose left-hander Blake Snell to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Snell left on a five-year, $182 million deal.

San Francisco needs somebody to go alongside Logan Webb. Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report proposed the idea of San Francisco winning the sweepstakes for Japanese right-hander Roki Sasaki.

“The prevailing assumption for a few weeks was that the G-Men would be the ones to land Corbin Burnes, but he ended up signing with Arizona instead.

Maybe San Francisco will win the Roki Sasaki sweepstakes in 2-3 weeks’ time,” Miller wrote.

After the Giants missed out on Burnes and lost Snell, they need to go and pick up a frontline starter, and Sasaki might be the best option for them. He won’t come too expensive and could give the Giants the ace they need in order to finally become a contender again.

The team won 80 games and finished in fourth place in the National League West, missing the postseason. But the move to sign Adames should help them, and adding a frontline pitcher could at the very least put them in the conversation for a Wild Card spot in what looks to be a very competitive National League.

Sasaki and Webb could be one of baseball’s best one-two punches should a deal ultimately materialize. The right-hander is likely to sign this month, and San Francisco would be wise to make a competitive offer.
