Pass rushers are hard to find in the NFL, which is why it’s really good to be the New York Giants right now.
Armed with three potentially elite edge rushers in Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux, Big Blue could be a big winner on the trade market if they decide to move on from Thibodeaux, the team’s fifth-overall pick from the 2022 NFL Draft.
In fact, the speculation about an eventual Thibodeaux trade is already heating up.
In a recent breakdown of the top players who could be available for trade now that NFL minicamps are in the books, Thibodeaux ranked fourth and was linked to the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers as potential suitors.
Working on a big edge rusher project and the most improved NFL edge in 2024 was Kayvon Thibodeaux. Much more precise with his hands and his long-arm was more effective. Really like him as a #3 who can win with power and speed pic.twitter.com/6qs1vNC6vl

“The Patriots, who recorded just 28 sacks in 2024, should have interest in adding Thibodeaux if he’s available,” Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox wrote. “New England did add Harold Landry III and Milton Williams in free agency but could still use another sack artist on its defensive front.
“The Green Bay Packers should also be interested in adding Thibodeaux. They only had one player (Rashan Gary) record more than five sacks last season and didn’t add any edge help this offseason before taking Barryn Sorrell in Round 4.”
The Giants exercised Thibodeaux’s fifth-year option, which means they have control over his rights through the 2026 season. But if Carter has the kind of impact most analysts are projecting he will, and with Burns locked up through 2028, Thibodeaux is fast-tracking to becoming the odd man out.
That leaves a trade as a likely outcome, and if the New York Giants can land, say, a second-round pick in return for Thibodeaux, who still has yet to make good on his pass-rushing upside, it would be a better outcome than eventually losing him in free agency for nothing.
Kayvon Thibodeaux ended the 2024 season 2ith 5.5 sacks in 12 games after registering a career-high 11.5 sacks in 2023.
