Giants land star pass rusher in final NFL draft prediction

The New York Giants hold one of the more polarizing spots in the 2025 NFL Draft at No. 3 overall.

There are so many ways they can go with their pick that it’s truly difficult to pin down exactly what direction they will take. They could go with the best player available, force a quarterback selection or even trade down from their selection.

In his final predictions for the NFL Draft, based on what he’s hearing, ESPN’s Peter Schrager has the Giants taking a blue-chip prospect in Penn State’s Abdul Carter.

“A few days ago, it sounded as if it was Carter or Hunter, but the Giants are having fluid conversations all week. I could imagine a host of teams calling if Carter is not a slam dunk,” Schrager wrote. “In the end, the Giants passed on Micah Parsons in 2021, instead trading down and taking wide receiver Kadarius Toney. I can’t see them passing on another star pass rusher from Penn State.”

With Cam Ward and Travis Hunter already off the board in this prediction, it makes sense for the Giants to bolster the pass rush. Adding Carter to a trio that already includes edge rushers Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns and interior rusher Dexter Lawrence would give New York a stellar pass rush.

Carter is an intriguing prospect considering his switch from off-ball linebacker to edge rusher in 2024. He excelled in the new role, racking up 12 sacks and 66 total pressures across 16 games during his final season.

If this winds up being the pick, many analysts will have their eyes on the Giants as a team to potentially trade back into the first round for a quarterback if the opportunity presents itself.
