Giants in trade talks to move back into first round for QB, per report

The New York Giants are seemingly prepared for anything when it comes to the 2025 NFL Draft.

Throughout the majority of the offseason, most analysts and experts believed the Giants were destined to grab a quarterback prospect with the No. 3 overall pick. Even with Cam Ward expected to be off the board, most believed Shedeur Sanders was a lock for New York.

However, the Giants added Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston to the quarterback room this offseason, giving the organization the flexibility to pivot away from a quarterback prospect at No. 3. It also gives them the chance to move back into the first round for a quarterback after going a different route at No. 3.

According to Dianna Russni of The Athletic, the Giants are reportedly in talks to move back into the first round.

“Sources say the Browns and the Giants, who own the first two picks of the second round, are in trade talks with teams at the back end of the first round. If either team trades up, the expectation is that it would be to select a quarterback,” Russini wrote.

Moving back into the first round would almost certainly be for a quarterback prospect. If Sanders or Jaxson Dart falls to the 20s, there’s a chance the Giants could be looking to make a move in order to secure the future of the quarterback room.

It will be a tricky road to navigate, however. There are several teams that could be looking to grab one of those quarterback prospects near the back of the first round. The Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 21) and Los Angeles Rams (No. 26) are two teams that could be looking to add a quarterback.

The Giants don’t have a direction for the future of the quarterback position and while the current regime needs to win now, their saving grace could be the potential of a young quarterback taking the reins in 2025.
