Giants-Diamondbacks trade idea sends slugging third baseman to San Francisco

The San Francisco Giants are currently 40-29, only one game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the National League West.

If the Giants want to make real noise down the stretch and into the postseason, the club will need to acquire a power bat for the middle of the lineup.

The trade deadline is 48 days away, plenty of time for more sellers to emerge.

One seller could be a fellow NL West team that is currently .500 and in fourth place of the division.

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez would be a great addition to San Francisco’s lineup.

“Suarez really only hits for power, but at least he does that well,” wrote Sports Illustrated’s Dylan Sanders. “He plays well at Oracle Park and could be a nice designated hitter option, allowing Wilmer Flores to play more first base, which is another need.”

Suarez, 33, was an All-Star in 2018 with the Cincinnati Reds. He strikes out a lot, but Suarez excels at hitting the ball out of the park.

With 19 home runs and 52 RBI, he is on pace to hit 45 home runs and drive in 124 runs. This kind of bat changes a lot for the Giants, a team that is 24th in slugging percentage.

Suarez’s .514 slugging percentage would lead the Giants by 33 points. If Arizona decides to sell, Suarez would be a no-brainer for San Francisco.
