The New York Giants find themselves with a desperate need to upgrade the quarterback room this offseason.
Recently, the biggest name linked to the Giants has been Los Angeles Rams star Matthew Stafford, who is in the middle of negotiations for a restructured contract.
In a mailbag article, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated was asked about the Giants as a potential landing spot for Stafford in what would be a blockbuster deal.
Teddy, I actually really like the New York Giants as a landing spot for Stafford—they might be second to the Pittsburgh Steelers for me as an ideal fit.
In New York, I think the Los Angeles Rams QB would be joining a team that’s much closer than people think. They’ve got a franchise left tackle (Andrew Thomas) and budding No. 1 receiver (Malik Nabers) on offense, and a defense that’s well-built around three cornerstones (Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux) along the front. They also have some financial wiggle room to land Stafford, then use Stafford to lure more veterans.
Add to that the fact that you’ve got some folks there that’ll be fighting for their jobs in the fall, and are under a fair amount of pressure to find a quarterback after the Daniel Jones contract didn’t work out, and I could see the Giants acting with some urgency.
Stafford might be the ideal option to add in order to get the Giants out of their hole. What it would cost to trade for him remains to be seen, but Stafford would be a fantastic fit in Brian Daboll’s offense while giving them a quarterback talent they haven’t had since the Eli Manning days.
Helping lead the Rams to another playoff appearance, Stafford had a solid season in 2024. He completed 65.8% of his passes for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, eight interceptions and a 93.7 passer rating. He did much of that without Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp for a chunk of the first half.
A two-time Pro Bowl selection (2013, 2023), Stafford is entering his age-37 season. On a 17-game pace over the last four seasons with the Rams, Stafford has averaged 4,384 yards, 28 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a 95.2 passer rating.
