Giants blockbuster trade idea would land $108 million All-Star for LaMonte Wade Jr.

The San Francisco Giants have had a busy offseason. They missed out on Corbin Burnes and could dump an expiring contract to land an All-Star for the rotation.

While listing trade destinations for Seattle Mariners starter Luis Castillo, MLB Trade Rumors’ Nick Deeds suggested the Giants could include LaMonte Wade Jr. in a deal for him.

“Castillo would be an excellent starter to pair with Logan Webb at the front of San Francisco’s rotation, and the Giants have previously expressed a willingness to deal first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr. this winter,” wrote Deeds.”Wade, 31 on New Year’s Day, has posted a solid .258/.376/.401 (120 wRC+) with a fantastic 15% walk rate over the past two seasons.”

Wade has a career .246/.351/.411 with 53 home runs. He will be a free agent next season and could be dealt before he potentially walks. The Mariners have a surplus of star pitchers and are in desperate need of some offense.

Castillo signed a five-year, $108 million deal with the Mariners in 2023. He had a 3.64 ERA with 175 strikeouts last season. He had a 3.34 ERA with 219 strikeouts in 2023. He is a three-time All-Star and could be a great addition to the Giants after the missed out on Corbin Burnes and lost Blake Snell this winter.

Wade has been a good presence for the Giants offense the last four seasons. He is coming off a solid season and his trade value could be as high as it’s going to get. Spotrac projects him to earn a five-year, $36 million deal on the open market. The Giants would be wise to move him if they don’t plan on bringing him back in 2025.
