Giannis Antetokounmpo reveals he’ll enter 2026 Dunk Contest under major condition

The NBA Dunk Contest has been a mediocre watch for the past few years, except for reigning champion, Mac McClung, who completed the first ever Dunk Contest three-peat.

Because of it, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo said he’d compete in the next one, with a caveat.

The caveat in the tweet being that Memphis Grizzlies superstar guard Ja Morant has to join as well. Morant was the first to say he might want to do it, and now Antetokounmpo will maybe enter alongside him.

If this happens, a true resurgence of the Dunk Contest might happen. Many fans have been calling for it to be removed, as it has been a boring watch for years, minus McClung. Stars turning down being in it led to its downfall, and fans wanted to be replaced with a One on One Contest.

If they could get a final star dunker to get in the contest, maybe a prior winner, such as Derrick Jones Jr., Aaron Gordon, or Zach Lavine, the Dunk Contest might be worth watching again. Morant actually tweeted at Gordon and Lavine, so it may get the gears in motion.

Hopefully this happens, as the Dunk Contest used to be the most anticipated contest in All-Star Weekend, rivaling the actual game. Fans want the legendary dunks back, and if Antetokounmpo can rally some superstars, it’d be a exhilarating watch again.
